It depends on a lot of things.

1. It depends on the competition. Sometimes the sites are thougher than they seem to be, or you didn’t take something in to notice properly. I also never use one strict formula to estimate competition, but I go by gut feeling a lot.
2. Depends on the quality of links that you are able to get. If you are able to get strong backlinks then you won’t need too much of them.

I have sites ranking #1 with five backlinks, and sites ranking on second page with 100 backlinks. Even so I am quite determined to get all, or a clear majority of these sites making money. So I won’t quit on them now, but I plan to build links for them.

What can I say... Today I don't recommend to join any of the courses there are. If you would want to have a guided approach to this you could try TKA - I spent some time there but basically I did not find it to be too much of a value for me - some people benefit from it very much. They have a first month for a buck - and you get all access during that month. So basically if you don't think that it will help you after that you should get away. Money in the Make Money Online world is made from working, and not listening to webinars and other stuff, so basically in my opinion once you get the hang of it you should try to avoid places like forums and MMO blogs - they are a huge time sink. Lately I have been socializing way too much and I have to get back to working harder. I don't really like monthly payments, and that is why I would rather recommend Nomads Guide to making money online - I have read it, it's good - since it is a one time fee and you get the "Griz blog in a nicely organized package". The thing is though that the buck that you spend with TKA can not be spent badly, and even if you would throw it away it would only be a dollar - if you are new you will get a lot out of their program though! If you have time but not money, then reading Grizs blog from start to finish, including all his comments (that's a lot of work), and making notes is what you can do. All the information that you need is there and that is how I started.

Once again great post Phil.I was wondering besides the link you provide to the awesome back link videos do you recommend any courses or anything.I am a complete newbie to this and don’t want to get had by purchasing some over priced learning tool from someone.I have seen some products out there(under 100.00) that seem promising but just wondering if they are a waste of time. Guess what I am asking is are you self taught or did you learn this from someone?

Enjoy this piece of motivational post as I am starting my own 100 micro sites challenge as well.

One newbie question, how many backlinks are typically required to rank these microsites to page one? The reason I am asking is that if they require too many backlinks, wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of these microsites?
