I can say that the less wordpress blogs one has, the easier it is. The large websites that you update on a weekly basis, are easy to handle with wordpress - since you can do the updating of the core and the plugins while you write the posts, but if you post something new on the site once or twice a year, there's no real reason to use Wordpress - static HTML is simple and lightweight. Most of my sites take less than 2 megabytes of server space, and the bandwidth that they consume, even with a lot of traffic is really minimal.

Thankfully I read this post to the end, and I can certainly agree with you on the man hours it takes to build a profitable micro niche website empire. Also, in one of my more recent posts, I too, commented on the absurdness of using WordPress as the platform of choice for simple 3-5 page micro niche websites. In the end, if you want to maximize your time and profits, spending hours per month upgrading plugins and the newest version of WordPress will only hurt you in the end.

i) based on what I have seen in the SERPS - haven't tried it myself - .co.uk's have been ranking well even if I am not in the UK
ii) If the exact keyword domain is not available you are going to lose the advantage of having it. You can always build sites with domains like make-money-from-home.com and makemoneyfromhomeblog.com you have the advantage of having the keywords in your domain name, but you don't have the exact domain name advantage. This means that you will need more backlinks - sometimes a lot more. I wouldn't do something like that for a site with low income expectations, but if you plan to build a bigger site and expect to get good money from it, then sure.

Hi Phil,

Great info :)
Would love to have your perspective on the exact domain names: (i) when you say local domains can be used - eg. .co.uk you mean when you target UK amrket, or get a .co.uk even if you go for US market? Would that work and (ii) If no exact name available anymore, is it better to take an exact name where words are separated by one or two hyphens, or get KW+ another word like "now"/"online"?

Thanks!

.coms are as good as .org and .net. I tried .biz with a few sites but it is even shittier than .info They aren't even indexed for their keyword yet.

Subdoimains don't actually work that great - if you want to save money then you can work it out, but they won't "transfer" authority to the main domain and I feel that they are a bit spammy. And you'll need backlinks. I'd rather use subfolders. Yeah the hard part is that I will be spending quite a lot of money next year for domain renewals, but I expect these sites to make more than that - and I can just drop the sites that never made much money so they won't cost me anymore.

I've used generated privacy policy pages that are used by thousands of others and they don't make a difference. Since it is not unique it won't be ranked by the search engines but who really cares since it is just the privacy policy anyways.

I am pretty busy right now but I plan on writing a "plans for 2010" sometime in the near future.

Your blog posts are out of this world awesome to say the least. You have inspired me more than you will ever know. I have around 20 sites going now and not even a dollar a day. I’ve been figuring out some of my problems as I go..

1. I was using “.info” domains with hyphens to seperate keywords. 2 problems there that are now fixed. What do you think about the two ideas?

2. I’ve moved to “.com” domains to be safest. I’m going the subdomain method for sites in niches. I’m sure you use different domains for each site BUT .. 100 sites = 1,000 $$ a year in domains.. please tell me what you do here? Or atleast comment?

3. I’ve heard that having unique subpages “About Us, Contact Us, Sitemap, etc” for each site helps it to rank.. is this true for you? and do you use this method?

**Your a huge inspiration to me and I hope to someday quit my job and go huge with online marketing.. I’ve had my head in books for the past 2 years and am literally obsessed. I’d have better luck quiting heroine.. if I was a user. ANYWAYS, your input is greatly appreciated and this site is bookmarked and awaiting updates from you.

That's true :P I was forgetting that, even so, I get sometimes paid more money for the clicks than what is the CPC. Actually I have a few sites that are consantly pulling more money for clicks than the CPC is - for one the avg CPC is below $1 and almost all the clicks are $1, another one gets clicks rarely and the CPC is $5, almost all the times I get paid something like $7. You can make a lot more money than what you can estimate based on the tools, and also you can make a lot less.
